Expand design life of nuclear building with Structural Health Monitoring – Sellafield Ltd site
In September 2023, for the thirteenth consecutive year since 2010, Sixense successfully completed the annual maintenance of the EverSense Acoustic Monitoring System, installed in a Sellafield Ltd building in the UK.
The EverSense Acoustic Monitoring system plays a crucial role at Sellafield by monitoring the status of structural pre-stressing tendons. This technology not only extends the operational lifetime of a key building but also ensures its sustainability and safety.
✅ Comprehensive System Check: NUVIA in collaboration with Nicolas CORTES from Sixense, conducted a thorough examination of all components of the Acoustic Monitoring system – sensors, cabling, acquisition nodes, and units. This proactive approach helps prevent or detect any potential risks of system failure.
✅ Minor Repairs and Testing: In addition to the inspection, we performed minor repairs and rigorous testing. Over the years, this type of preventive maintenance has consistently delivered exceptional uptime.
✅ Assessment for the Future: We conducted a complete assessment of the system to mitigate equipment obsolescence risks and prevent critical failures.
✅ Data Quality and Reliability: During the on-site maintenance, Sixense conducted numerous tests to ensure that the system has maintained high data quality and reliability since its installation in 2010.
