Improvement Works for Sheikh Zayed Road (SZR)
In addition to Sheikh Zayed Road extension works, diverting utilities such as potable water is required.
Hills & Fort was contracted to excavate a shored trench, up to 5m deep, below Sheikh Zayed Road, in the vicinity of the existing UAE Exchange Metro Station in Dubai.
Sixense was entrusted as a 3rd-Party Consultant to undertake vibration, settlement, and groundwater table monitoring around the edge of the shored wall. The collected data enabled the real assessment of the effects of the proposed construction activities on RTA Metro Station.
Required Instrumentation and Monitoring Activities
Instrumentation and monitoring of key parameters prior, during and following the completion of the activity are recommended to ensure the stability of the trench and provide an early warning system, if need be.
- Hills & Fort subcontracted Sixense as a 3 Party Consultant to undertake vibration, settlement and groundwater table (GWT) monitoring around the edge of the shored wall.
Ground vibration levels were recorded in real-time. - Levelling points and optical targets were installed on the curbstone in the vicinity of the metro station.
- Standpipe piezometer was installed to record the GWT.
- Campaigns of semi-automatic monitoring activities were carried out.
The collected data enabled to assess realistically the interaction effects of the proposed construction activities on RTA facilities (Metro Station).
